Saxophonist and musical omnivore Benjamin Herman has been one of the most prolific musicians of his generation for over thirty years. Since the nineties he has performed all over the world and released over fifty albums with his band New Cool Collective and as a solo artist.
In Nostalgia Blitz he dives into the music that fascinated him in his youth. When the young Benjamin started making music in 1980, the saxophone was the hippest instrument in the world. In addition to an abundance of saxophone heroes in pop music, there were also individuals like James Chance and Hans Dulfer who did it completely in their own way. Atonal disco, conceptual art jazz, punk jazz. Saxophonists with an attitude: super stubborn and very creative. In addition to Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, they were of great influence on Benjamin’s musical taste.
“ Nostalgia Blitz is an attempt to stretch the boundaries of my own playing and at the same time pay tribute to my childhood heroes,” says Benjamin Herman. With Thomas Pol on bass and Jimmi Hueting on drums.
