Last Taizé celebration

  • 18 May 2025
    • 19:30

After 10 wonderful years, Taizé Westfriesland is organizing a Taizé celebration for the last time on Sunday evening, May 18. During this celebration, we want to make it quiet within ourselves and open ourselves to all the reasons for gratitude that God gives us. The celebration will take place in the Silence Center in the dome church in Hoorn. It starts at 19:30. Those who like it can join in from 19:00 to sing a few songs from the celebration.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the meditative Taizé songs and instrumental accompaniment form an oasis of peace and reflection. The lyrics, the silence and the reading help us to grow in faith and trust. From there we also find gratitude. As Frère Alois says1: ‘Trust in God Let us look at others, the world, and the future with new eyes—a way of seeing that is filled with gratitude, hope, and appreciation for the beauty around us.’ From gratitude, we can then start the new week strengthened!

What is a Taizé celebration?

A Taizé celebration is a short celebration of about 50 minutes, full of meditative singing and silence, inspired by the ecumenical monastic community of Taizé. The essence: peace and space to come to yourself and to God, to thank for what you have been given and to pray for what you long for. No long texts or spoken words, but singing, praying and being silent together. Taizé is also the meeting between generations, cultures, believers of different denominations and non-believers. Everyone is welcome!

After the celebration there is time to chat while enjoying a cup of coffee and a delicious piece of cake.
