Instrumental arrangement for small ensemble.

The Dutch composer and musician Egon Kracht wrote his instrumental St. Matthew Passion as a modern interpretation of the original music by JS Bach. The result is a short, but powerful and above all lively St. Matthew Passion.

The reviewers agreed: it is a special experience to undergo this St. Matthew Passion. With an ensemble of seven musicians, Kracht approaches the composer Bach to the bone. He reveals the core and shows what it is all about, why this music is so special and still deeply touches the soul. This St. Matthew Passion à la Kracht is more than an arrangement or an ode. It is a beautifully rounded work, which stands up next to Bach because it does Bach justice. “It helps if you know it a little, the St. Matthew Passion. Because then you hear how cleverly and lovingly, how faithfully and how creatively Egon Kracht concentrated Bach’s masterpiece and reworked it into an idiosyncratic journey for septet.
