On the water
Water-rich Westfriesland offers everything for a perfect day by, on, or in the water. Swim in the IJsselmeer from the beaches, cast your fishing line in the inland waters, sail on the most fun boats, or simply enjoy the view from the shore with the many recreational boats.
As far as the eye can see
Westfriesland is surrounded by water on three sides. Along the Westfriese Omringdijk, you can cycle or walk from place to place, from harbor to harbor, and from beach to beach along the IJsselmeer coast. Visit the recreational area of Enkhuizerzand, the Vooroever between Enkhuizen and Medemblik, or the city beach of Hoorn. Alternatively, opt for the inland waters at recreational areas like Streekbos, Nesbos, or Egboetswater.
In good waters
Step aboard for a boat tour, take a cruise over the large lakes, or explore the city on a SUP board. Want to learn sailing, surfing, or waterskiing? You can do that at many locations along the West Frisian coast. Or explore the waterways through the inland waters by sloop or canoe. A network of canals, lakes, and ponds connects the many villages in the water-rich landscape. Ideal for a day of fresh air, water sports, or fishing. Check the website for beaches and the boating route network.
