The exhibition *Living with the Dike* can be seen in the Westerkerk in Enkhuizen from Tuesday, June 2 to Saturday, June 20. The exhibition shows how the West Frisian Ring Dike has been part of our daily lives for some 800 years now. The city of Enkhuizen originated along the Ring Dike, and important streets such as the Breedstraat are part of the historic dike. Admission to the exhibition is free every Tuesday through Saturday from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

The *Living with the Dike* exhibition pays homage to the 126-kilometer-long Ring Dike, which, with its distinctive body, winds proudly through the North Holland landscape like a green garland. Since time immemorial, this ‘dike of dikes’ has protected people and animals against the wild waters and, in a warm embrace, makes West Frisia West Frisia; one and indivisible.

Images and objects show the Ring Dike in everyday life. Although it has lost its water-retaining function in many places, the dike remains the bearer of the landscape and connects people and communities to and within the dike. Cyclists, walkers, athletes, spotters, and many others make grateful use of it for their circuit along the dike. The dike is also a source of inspiration for landscape painters, poets, singers, and other creative minds.

**Deurloupers**

For 25 years, under the motto ‘Gaan!’ (Go!), the Westfriese Deurloupers have contributed to raising awareness of the cultural-historical importance of the Omringdijk and everything it embraces and connects. As the organizing and celebrating cultural group, the Deurloupers therefore pay their homage to the Omringdijk with this exhibition. At its core lies a collection of photographs shot by members of Fotocafé Alkmaar, supplemented by a series of drawings and texts by Zaankanter Jan Scarpa. Also on display are special Deurlouper paraphernalia, such as poetry, stories, visual installations, and ……. music. Perhaps that is why, on exhibition days, instruments are also picked up to perform a few songs, in West Frisian: vezelluf!
