The Dutch Steam Engine Museum, located in the former steam pumping station Vier Noorder Koggen, will open its doors to the public again on Saturday 15 February at the start of the spring break. During the winter break, hard work was done to prepare the machines for the new steam season.
The museum houses one of the largest collections of working steam engines in the Netherlands and tells two special stories: the battle of the West Frisians against the water and the discovery of the steam engine that changed the world.
Under Steam
From Saturday 15 February to Sunday 2 March, the boiler fire will be stoked to run the engines. It is fascinating to see the robust technology of the past in action. Engineers and tour guides enthusiastically explain how the steam engines work and what steam has meant.
‘Exhibition ‘The Netherlands on Steam!’
In an audiovisual show with dozens of moving steam models you can see how the application of steam technology in our country really took off from the second half of the 19th century and how the steam engine began its advance.
Adventure for children
With miniature steam engines you can make steam yourself and discover what steam power does. A fun treasure hunt is ready with which you can explore the museum. If you lend a hand to the stoker and the blacksmith, you will receive a real ‘stoking diploma’ and a ‘forging diploma’ as a reward. So roll up your sleeves and get started!
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
